Urgh.

So I'm not in work today. Got a bad night's sleep on Sunday night but made it into work on Monday. By the time I left work on Monday I was feeling distinctly below par and didn't make it to roleplaying that night. Got another bad night's sleep last night, despite 1mg of Melatonin. May try again tonight, but with a smaller dosage, see if that helps.

Went to the doctor's and they've told me I have a virus, told me to self-certify until the end of the week, ensure my diet is good, get exercise when the virus has passed, reduce alcohol consumption (not that I drink much these days anyway) and reduce caffeine consumption after 6pm and get a strict bedtime routine going. I'll also have blood tests on Monday to see if there's anything else the matter.

In the mean time, bleurgh.

..so says the Gloucestershire Echo. Well I suppose it is a famous quote, and you can't blame them for using it ;)

7/7 bombings? Cup of tea. Terrorist alert? Cup of tea. Floods? Cup of.. WHAT THE?! NO WATER OR ELECTRICITY!??! PANIC! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!

The urge seems to be rising amongst people around here to do just that, and I don't blame them. Not that we personally seem to have run out of either water or electricity just yet.

Another day off work due to illness. If this continues tomorrow I will be making a doctor's appointment. I wonder how many businesses in this area (and other affected areas) have a disaster plan that copes with up to 14 days of no running water? This could be interesting.

Found it difficult to get up yesterday, even more so today. Was still contemplating going in when [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 pointed out that I should rest. I realised I hadn't really got much useful done yesterday anyway. Now I'm sat here I'm beginning to realise I'm feeling feverish. Rest and fluids for me, then.

[livejournal.com profile] chocojon invited me to Joost - I think anyone can now get invited, so let me know if you're interested. After an initial networking problem (no idea what the cause was, but restarting both the gateway firewall and the local machine's firewall seemed to solve it) I was able to get picture. It can stutter a little for the first 20 seconds, but after that it's really pretty solid. The programmes all appear to be in 4:3 format at present. Would be nice to see a widescreen option/programmes. On our 4Mb cable broadband, the sound and picture quality is pretty much the same as SD cable tv channels - i.e. perfectly serviceable. I haven't yet worked out how much bandwidth it consumes to try to ensure I keep us from getting throttled.

What Pandora did for music, Joost is doing for telly - although Joost is (will be?) advert supported and shows whole series, Pandora only allows you to choose music similar to one you specify.

There is a channel on there called 'Gong', which seems to have 4 or 5 anime series. :) The range isn't spectacular at present - enough for most people to find something they like, but I'm hearing they're doing deals with big companies keen to ensure they don't turn out like the RIAA.

Ugh

So this morning I dragged my sorry ass into work, after gallivanting last night with the CEO of three successful multi-national corporations in an opulent private dining room of a posh hotel in central Cheltenham.

I slept better last night, but my sore throat has developed into a cough and a cold, and I ended up having to go to Tesco first thing to get makefeelgoodnow medicine.

I've just agreed to buy a car stereo from a friend, but the real reason for this post is this. Proper Linux. Onna phone. I think it's possibly one of the only phones I will actually want to and probably will end up buying. Although I will wait for the next version with WiFi.

Just come back from the doctors. I have a combination of a 'flu like virus and throat infection so I'm off now until after Christmas, when I have holiday anyway, so I won't be going back to work until the new year. *shrug*.
