I appear to have ended up with the KEF Reference IIs tonight. Even more balanced sound with better stereo imagery than the Naim Intros.. but. The review I link to is fairly accurate. The bass is.. just not authoratative. The sound is just not inspiring, unless you turn it up lots. So basically like the Castles, but without the redeeming presence. Pleasant though.

May well fair better on [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's more up-front system, and bass won't matter so much as she has her sub.

Dammit — I wish I was listening to all these speakers with music and supporting componentry I knew well. Three or four carefully chosen test tracks can show up more stuff than an evening of general-purpose listening.

It's been a while since I've done any serious listening tests, and all your tales are making me miss them. You won't still have all those speakers sitting around next weekend, will you? (-8

Unfortunately not; and I think I'm busy next weekend as well. I agree, and I choose tracks that will highlight various things - all with music I enjoy listening to and of the sort I would use the system for every day :)
