I wouldn't mind some details from you about it actually, I'm curious to see how the one you bought matches up to the ones online. For instance, the really nice examples are going for about that price in auto-trader, but with full electrics, FSH, new tyres and great condition, it's probably about right.

Did you ask him why he was selling it etc?

Sorry I couldn't help with the practical stuff, it all happened so quickly after I told you that it was available... you're getting really quite impulsive in your old age! ;)

He's bought a new car, a Ford Focus Estate dual fuel (LPG and petrol).

That's OK - it's got a history of all the work done to it and it doesn't look like a lot (but it's had a cam belt only 7,000 miles ago). I also know and trust the person selling it to me, and know a little about the history so I'm happy (and happier buying IYSWIM) from that standpoint. I don't need to rely on it as I have a bike and I'm not going to be putting loads of miles on it - all those things combined mean that I can afford to be happy with the documentation, a little poke and a test drive.

I think perhaps I'm just flexing my new spending muscles a little ;)

It wouldn't be so bad, but he's also 'accidently' bought a new exhaust system for his bike, and a new centre speaker that's worth three times as much as his current car, all in the last week... :s

It is a Vauxhall Calibra. It's a 2 litre 8 valve.. automatic. Yes, I will shortly own an automatic.

Did you check what happened when it went round a corner?

I've always felt that the Calibra looks very nice indeed, but suffers somewhat from being almost a stock Cavalier chassis and suspension.

Yes, and I noticed it going around a roundabout (gently because the current owner - kissycat1000's stepfather - was in the car with me). But in all honesty my bike is the mad mobile; the car is just for when I feel lazy.

I find that very encouraging, I'm still having reservations about automatic cars. I'm very wobbly about the idea of them, but see that I need to do it. They just seem so... alien!

Trouble is, it's an old Vauxhall, which means the driving position is.. limited. More suited to men, to be frank. Still, have a go and see what you think :)
