There is something making an ticking noise. It sounds like it's on my desk. Frustratingly, whenever I lean closer to where I think its coming from, it stops (or otherwise becomes inaudible to me).

Hello 2007; I hope the rest of you isn't quite so irritating :/

I'm impressed - you sacked an unemployed man - not a great start to 2007 I fear!

Yes but from what I gather you've chosen that.. have I got that right?

In which case it's non-portentous and you can carry on your merry way.

By the way, you're still fired. :p

Do any of your colleagues have a suspicious grin?

Next course of action is obviously start taking everything to pieces, possibly making use of something large, heavy, and blunt (like, for example, a big hammer). Continue until it stops.

:)

My colleagues are all just as dead-looking as I feel. I doubt they'd have thought up something so malicious on this much sleep.

BTW, I am about to go and see if I can find the Test Manager to ask him certain questions; is this still the plan?

Well yes I did choose this situation thats true. But, who knows, maybe it is a sinister insight into the year ahead for me and, unbeknownst to you, your previously untapped psychic abilities are subconsciously setting the scene for my near future!

Either that or I am talking bollocks (again).

Anyway - you can't fire me cos I quit (months ago) ner ner ner ner etc! :P

*nods*
Aye, definitely. :)

It is in my Plan™ to make any required tweaks to what I need to send with you when I get home this evening. :)

*laughs*

I do hope for both our sakes that I have no psychic powers at all. My subconscious ruling fate? It doesn't bear thinking about...

I laughed until I thought seriously about the end result of the above situation.

I'm going to go and think of fluffy things for an hour now!

I'm sure that would make a good premise for a film.. if it hasn't already. Hm, you've got me thinking now. Can you think of any films where this has been the main theme, or at least a significant feature in the film? It could take a number of guises, depending on how the director chose to tell the story...

I am sure there is a film like that and, if I remember correctly, it was in The Twilight Zone set.

I do remember it was parodied once in an episode of the Simpsons but this was conscious thought controlling reality and the protagonist was Bart Simpson.

Unhappily, the Simpsons may well be where I'm recalling this genius piece of film plot from.

I clearly watch far too much telly.

New research clearly shows that watching tv is good for you and in fact contributes to a healthier lifestyle, makes you more attractive, is an integral part of a calorie controlled diet and increases your mental agility*

According to your data it should be me on the front of the glossy mags then. Something is Not Right™ here.

Still, endless toilet humour ensues by playing on the new Nintendo console with friends at my house. :)

The ears are quite bad at localising such noises.

While staying still, rotate your head left and right carefully. The sound will be perfectly in phase (loudest) when it's directly in front of or behind you. Then repeat the experiment while looking upwards and downwards and you should be able to get the elevation.

Even then it's not easy. I've located such sounds before now by using a good microphone and soundcard to make a stereo recording, then analysing the waveform in Adobe Audition. (-8

Ah, thanks for the tick, I mean tip.

I'm not sure it's gone away yet. It's waiting until its quiet to haunt me again.

What, the one I had to have fitted when I got my bike, due to the incredible stresses it puts on my system? ;)

Actually I think it's down to the laptop power supply. Which is irritating. I'll have to speak to IS about it.

It's not a variation of the annoying random 'annoy your colleagues' beeper thinkgeek sell, is it? :D
