azekeilSurfaceScapes is awesome. Unfortunately it's only a tech demo, but the possibilities.. currently the Microsoft Surface thingy is purportedly ~$10,000, but free open-source multi-touch screen input software exists and the input part of it can be created with just a webcam...
However, this internet multi-user map tool created for roleplaying is possible today (http://rptools.net/), and looks pretty awesome!
