Date: 2003-11-04 04:38 pm (UTC)I actually found the case I got to try quite interesting, it was an armed robbery in Telford and the bloke they'd caught was guilty as hell. Having said that,
If you have a good reason, by all means get yourself exempted, but it really isn't that bad, and even crap employers have a hard time doing anything about a jury summons. In fact, I believe they can be done for contempt of court if they hassle you too much (it wouldn't surprise me, pretty much anything can be contempt of court if it pisses a judge off).
It can be quite amusing. I was in the front row of the jury and kept getting pointed out by witnesses. Once because the accused had been wearing something the same colour as my shirt, and once because I had a similar haircut (#1 all over) to the accused at the time of the offence.
