So I thought I'd give it a try, just to ward off any would-be depression. I seem to have purchased not just one pair but two pairs of speakers (a long, long overdue purchase some of you might argue).
Couldn't face real hi-fi shop prices, so the upper end of Richer Sounds it was: a pair of TDL Studio 10s and a pair of Mordaunt Short 914s. Ordinarily I would have shied away from the TDLs but they're reduced from £400 so I wanted to try them both in case I was missing a trick. The 914s are actually a light wood finish and the shop demo ones as they didn't have any in stock; I'll return/swap them for new black ones when I decide.
Anyway, they're sitting at home waiting for me to play with them this evening with
kissycat1000.
Feeling a bit run down.

Date: 2004-11-23 03:23 am (UTC)At this rate you'll have more speakers than room! You should think about maybe getting/building an active sub as well. Especially if you're getting some nice quality main speakers. :)
Told you before there's nothing wrong with a bit of retail therapy, it's most effective if done right. ;)

Date: 2004-11-23 03:26 am (UTC)I probably won't need a sub...
..
Doesn't mean I won't prat around making one ;)

I went to Gerald's LJ and found the link you meant anyway...
Some of those photos are just spectacular, I mean, really just breathtakingly gorgeous. I'd love to get to a site like that! The very first one is my favourite, the bloke at the front gives it such an amazing sense of perspective, I love the symmetry and sheer hugeness the shot conveys. :)

I'll have to look properly at home, can't really do it here. Full screen is a bit too obvious. ;)

Date: 2004-11-23 03:56 am (UTC)Seriously - if you have to use a subwoofer, set the crossover really low. When I used one, I eventually settled on a 58Hz crossover, for example.

Date: 2004-11-23 04:05 am (UTC)I have no idea what frequncy my crossover is set to, as it's simply a dial. But it's low, and it works for me. Also the gain is quite low, so you can't really hear the sub at all, but you notice when it's not there :) But I turn it up rather more when using the hi-fi for home cinema. Those explosions really have to shake the floor or it just isn't right. ;)
