The consultant asked me some basic questions about my bouts of tonsilitus and warned me that there was about a 1 in 110+ chance of secondary bleeding (which would require another trip into theatre to repair). Other than that and told me to wait for a letter giving the date to have my tonsils out. Oh.. okay.

I hope it comes after August as I'll have to reschedule it if it's before or during the holiday... I hope I get and am in my new job by then as well, because Intercall are not going to like me having my tonsils out right in the middle of the site reshuffle either. Oh dear. Lol.

Actually, I couldn't have picked a worse time (from their perspective) to do all this. Ah well.

The timing is not your problem. However, did the consultant give any indication of how long the wait is at the moment?

I've always understood it to be 2-3 months. I was told it was the same for the appointment, which came through in 6 weeks.

Oh I do hope it's as soon as possible. I feel quite guilty I never managed to persuade anyone to take them out when you were a child. This is so better late than never. Don't forget to give me the date. Oh and be blowed (how polite) to jobs, health always comes first.

health always comes first

Exactly - and a job that doesn't understand that isn't worth anything in the first place!

I'm always amazed they don't do tonsilectomies on kids in the UK unless they absolutely have to - I had mine out when I was 3 in the Middle East because our doctor rightly said that once you get tonsilitis once you'll just keep getting it till the things get removed. They don't seem to have the long-term in view in the UK in quite the same way!

They always did when I was a kid but by the time Azekeil was around some sort of political correctness had crept in - so much so that our GP virtually pleaded with the ENT chap but no go! Ridiculous isn't it?
