He's normally totally reliable. I can only assume he spent so much time on this game it impinged on his RL and he's just cutting away the unnecessary to repair his RL.
It sounded a good game (I followed your link the other day & read some while taking a break from work), hopefully whatever's wrong will be sorted & the DM can come back & finish it sometime.
