Gosh. Well it seems that someone has also had the same idea as me (for a 'friends loan') and turned it into a commercial proposition.

I have my doubts.

I think I've heard of this before, through a website called (ISTR) zapruder.com (yeah, I know, odd name for a website). Anyway, the basic premise is that people prepared to lend money sign up, and people wanting to BORROW money sign up. Zapruder then credit checks the people borrowing, you can lend them money at a specified rate of interest and presumably Zapruder rakes off some of the interest or charges the borrower a set-up fee to make their own money back. Interesting premise, but I wouldn't trust it so far as I could throw it.

I'm sure it has its safety nets and security devices and so on, but still. I'm pretty sure there are going to be some burnt fingers out there...

That looks pretty much like a Credit Union.

They can work really well, or go horribly wrong. See "It's a Wonderful Life" for details. :0)
