azekeil: (sleepy)
[personal profile] azekeil
Well, it's continuing to be a difficult period, but I remain optimistic.
  • I ordered a new kingsize bed and memory foam mattress for just over £500. I'm looking forwards to proper nights sleep.
  • Tonight [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 and I are planning to go swimming, the official start of the attempt to get a bit more exercise.
  • Still managing to stick to making sandwiches at work, and not eating crap.
  • Failed to come in on my motorbike today due to my hip still playing up (ibuprofen seems to cure it temporarily, so I guess something's inflamed) - that'd be dangerous on a bike. Plus it was damp enough not to make it much fun.
  • I'm considering buying a gortex motorcycle jacket and luminous PVC over trousers, so I can travel in the wet on my bike while being drier and a little more visible. These things will also come in handy for the cycling I intend to do every Monday. Also need to buy lights for the bike.
  • I'm also planning to buy a garden badminton/volleyball net, as I'm sure it'll come in useful if not now, then in the summer, possibly in the garden, but definitely camping / on the beach etc..
All in all, hopefully slowly getting better.

I've had one since I was 7. While I don't mind sleeping on other beds, NOTHING is like my waterbed. We recently changed from a freeflow to a semi waveless (it only moves for half the time of a freeflow) and it is LUSH. Cost is about the same as a normal bed, depending on what sort of frame you're after and there are places that do free trials. Of course this is a bit late for you NOW..........

Hmm. I can just see me sending [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 flying with a particularly vigorous roll-over!

You might like to think that, but doesn't quite work like that! AND you can get the mattresses half and half, so one half could be freeflow and the other half could be motionless (though I dont see the point in the motionless ones - it's like sleeping in gel)

Heh.

Is this where I make enquiries relating to getting in your bed..? ;)

Esprit D'escalier strikes again.

Just thought of a much better response to that too late.......

Waterbeds are well worth trying, at least the once. Better vs Worse is a bit too subjective, but certainly different enough to recommend thinking about.
The spare room that [livejournal.com profile] edwardscissors and [livejournal.com profile] siani_hedgehog stayed in last week is equiped with one. So they can give you an impartial view :)

Anyone is welcome to try it out! ;-)

There is small print on the terms and conditions though! :-)

http://www.memflex.co.uk/, through http://www.bedworld.net/ - their 20cm Kingsize is in clearance at £299! Tempur seem to be exceptionally expensive; I don't know if you're just paying for all the advertising and brand, or if there's something else in it. But at 1/3 the price, I ain't paying the difference to find out!

Heh. I'm talking about trousers though; I really don't fancy cycling in leather trousers! ;)

and memory foam mattress

Win! Memory foam is most excellent. Well done.

Also need to buy lights for the bike.

Buy *good* ones, it's worth the extra few quid. I can offer more detailed advice as to what constitutes good with a bit more info about your bike and riding habits.

I'd also caution against considering motorcycle wet weather gear for cycling in, since the level of physical exercise is so different, I suspect you'll find you boil in the bag.... Again, advice can be offered if you want :)

Advice on lights would be most helpful.

I had already thought about the difference - I was unsure about going with the trousers on the bike as they'd probably rub holes in no time! The sort of jackets I'm thinking of are light anyway, and I can just take the armour out of them for pedal cycling.. plus they have zip holes for ventilation, so I shouldn't have too much trouble regulating temperature :)

I'll prod you on MSN or in person about the lights.

It may be that motorcycle waterproof jackets have changed since I knew of them, but I think you might be surprised just how much they don't suit, even with the armour out etc. I'd be happy to be wrong though :)

In the land of cyclewear, regular gortex doesn't tend to really cut it in terms of breathability - so it tends to be pac-lite, or e-vent, or some of the less waterproof soft-shell materials that win, due to 'rain from within' being more of an issue, if you're at all energetic in your cycling...

Yeah, fair point. I don't want to be too energetic as I will be arriving at someone's house to socialise in a single room for 3 hours!

I'll have to go and play in a bike clothing shop for a bit I guess.
