Moar WTF..!
Mar. 20th, 2007 09:18 amSo this morning I got woken up at 5:30, by the wind in my bedroom. Apparently if the wind blows in a certain direction, which would be seemingly rare, it gets forced into my room through the air vent, despite it being closed. The chilly breeze along with the whistling produced was enough to wake me up, distinctly unimpressed. I decided that I wasn't going to be able to get back to sleep with it like that, so cue an impromptu DIY session.. at 5:30 in the morning. I hope my neighbours forgive me for the motorised screwdriver next to their wall (note to self: must get a standard philips screwdriver).
First I tried cutting a section out of a non-crinkly plastic bag, to place between the plastic sections to seal it better. This seemed to work and I went back to bed. A lot quieter too. But no dice! I was still getting chilly breezes! On further investigation the cold air was coming out of the sides of the vent where it doesn't seal properly with the wall. Luckily, I knew exactly where I had some draught excluder hiding away, so used that to seal it properly. This time it worked like a charm, and the bag logo is quite funky through the slats of the vent too.
But, bah! DIY at 5:30 in the morning. Someone up there is having fun taunting me. *shakeyfist*

Date: 2007-03-20 09:36 am (UTC)At least the wind is rare for you... living on the third floor above the town centre, the wind really rips across here - and of course, it's not double glazed.
Sometimes, being hearing impaired does have advantages, I guess...

Date: 2007-03-20 01:03 pm (UTC)I'd have just attacked it with duct tape till it stopped bothering me.
Or possibly added an extra duvet to my bed and put it in the "To do after I wake up" pile.

Date: 2007-03-20 01:45 pm (UTC)it was a 5:30am solution and you managed to consider collateral damage.
Until I wake up every shred of american dna in my body is in control so I'm incapable of considering that kind of things. Also, not-mixing sweet and savory at breakfast.
