So this morning I planned to take my bike to get its (late) MOT. Except.. I can't find my keys. I have a sneaking suspicion they dropped out at [livejournal.com profile] chocojon's house over the weekend. At any rate I ended up walking for 3 miles to pick up my car that I'd left close to the bike shop last night in preparation for driving to work this morning after dropping my bike off.

I'm really looking forwards to the Easter weekend, where I plan to mostly bum around relaxing.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] chocojon's just found my keys. Phew.

Do you not have a spare set of bike keys at [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's house? The last few days have not going well for you really have they... :/ *hugs*

Here's hoping things improve quickly and we can all enjoy the weekend fully. :) Would you still be interested in a BBQ at our place on Sunday?

All but the ignition key, which I've been meaning to get copied (but I can only do that from Honda themselves).

I was speaking to [livejournal.com profile] dylan yesterday and he's possibly interested in coming up for a BBQ, but he's busy on Sunday and Monday... so yeah, but on Friday or Saturday?

And the place where you were taking it is a Honda dealership, you could have had it done at the same time. :/

Friday or Saturday would be fine with me, best check with [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 what she thinks. :)

Yeah, I know.

I remember seeing them in my bag at [livejournal.com profile] chocojon's place. I've just called him up to see if he can check for me, so hopefully I'll know soon.

I think I just want to go to bed and sleep for a long while.

Can I interest sir in some sort of key-chain or similar key-retaining device?

Anything that relies on me doing something with them is doomed to fail. I was thinking about those whistle-beep devices, or even something as tech as this or this.

I see they've turned up...
Assuming you won't really get them back before the weekend, do you want to re-book your MOT for next week? I'm off work and as long as I have warning of when it will be, I should be able to help with dropping off/picking up. :)

I think [livejournal.com profile] chocojon is offering to drop the keys in to you at your work.. he should be emailing you shortly..?

I don't have a preference, apart from that it should be a lunchtime BBQ rather than evening. I suggest a poll. :)

Then I shall make/post a poll when I go on lunch, and you guys can link to it, yes? :)

Not my fault that I work quicker than your proxy does :p ;)

I shall link to it in a bit

Something which I've been told probably doesnt help the barrel of the ignition switch, but certainly ensures I never forget my keys is that I have all my keys all togther in one fat heavy lump.

This way I cant go anywhere without forgeting my large lump of metal. I literally cant go anywhere without it!

With the setup I have for my keys, I have to make a conscious effort to take them *off* the cord I keep them on.

The keyringer looks like the more sensible of the two options there - the loc8tor is more geeky, but I bet you you'd lose the finder end of it :)

Yeah, that's where I am. The trouble is, I actually have to have a small bunch of keys for the bike because I can't have them flapping around while I'm riding..

From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
Yeah, trouble is I ride a bike, and one big lump is actually dangerous on a bike...

I use a carabiner and just unclip things as I need them, or you can use something like this : http://www.flash-lights.com/images/product_images/popup_images/mammutmodul_579.jpg

Well if you're free at all on the bank holiday weekend, it might be worth looking into the megabus service (for instance) or advance train tickets. We have BBQ goodness... *Tempts you*

Here, but I'm not sure it looks that cheap :/

If you fancy an hour long motorcycle ride, I'm fairly certain Oxford is easy to get to by bus..?

From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
I shall give it some thought. Thanks.

oooo...that idea has distinct potential

hmm I guessed as much. sorry for not being totally helpful.

the tech option is probably your best bet then.

From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
No worries :) Every suggestion helps.. for example I may try some sort of hybrid where all keys are carried, but only disconnected for use, then attached again afterwards. I still have to carry round the big lump, which has all my keys...

Cool, well let me know :)

I think you want the Day/Next Day return for £14 from the Oxford Espress..

From: [identity profile] izzy-stradlin.livejournal.com
Heh..probably cheaper to get the train into oxford, as i would have to go into london to get the bus.
I am certainly very interested. When would this be?

Well I'm thinking probably Friday, but my bike is in for it's MOT today, so hold off until after midday when I'll know whether it's going to be road legal on Friday or not :)

Date: 2007-04-04 12:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
Right, bike's passed the MOT without any problems (win!), so if you wanted to get a coach/train to Oxford on Friday, you're more than welcome to stay if you wish. I can pick you up and drop you back from Oxford on the bike. Do you have a helmet and leathers, or do you want me to bring my spare small helmet and my spare (rather awfully big and old but warm) leathers and some spare gloves? I don't know if you've been on a bike before but you'll need to wear sensible shoes and some tough warm trousers, like jeans.

I'll have a top box which can hold something the volume that two helmets placed side to side take up - let me know if you want to bring more than that and I can fit panniers. You can get food and drink locally to save carting it around :)

If you could arrive in Oxford no later than 1pm, to allow us time to get back and set up for light-up time at 3pm that would be great :)

Let me know what you want to do...

From: [identity profile] izzy-stradlin.livejournal.com
Yay! :). I have a helmet and leathers. Would be grateful for borrowing of gloves though, as mine were nicked a while ago.
Will probably be bringing a small rucksack (enough to fit a sleeping bag).
I'll probably be getting there about 12.47.

From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
Sweet. I'll aim to get there for that time then. I've just emailed you my number to your LJ address.. let me know if you got it OK :)

Don't worry too much about a sleeping bag, we have enough bedding :) I'll bring gloves and a scarf of some description.

So, the train station yes?

In the event the weather's shocking, I've got my car and I'll drive up instead. Not nearly so much fun, but a lot less wet...
