As you may have known, my role was recently made redundant. I've just been told they'll be making me an offer for the role of Non-Production Support Team Lead, which is a grade higher than before, and I'll probably start next Friday. Get in!
Yeah, with Goldman Sachs - that didn't go very well :) It was one of those interviews that feels more like a pub quiz... lots of questions about obscure details that no-one in their right mind would actually try to remember - that's what man pages and google are for!
Anyway, it all sounded very high pressure. Although money is nice, I'm not sure I want it badly enough to get into that kind of environment.
Still, it's always disappointing/disheartening to fail at interview, even if you decided halfway through it that the job wasn't for you :)
Well, keep your chin up. It might be an idea to bone up on some of the more obscure things (perhaps there are sample perl questions on the net somewhere?) if for no other reason than to give you confidence at the next interview.
Besides, even if the interviewers ask those sorts of obscure questions, it's unlikely the job is going to be much reflection on the interview style.
