Ahaahahhahaa.. all my eeevil plans are coming together!! (or: My weekend)

Ahem, yes. Well, I have a nice new spangly icon thanks to nemy, cryx and kissycat1000 ;) kissycat1000 has posted about the weekend, which I will be inordinately lazy and link to again (you ARE my secretary and you know it ;) ).

I have the bike back, MOT'd and carbs cleaned (and new indicator fitted). It's a lot better but still a little rough. Perhaps it would benefit from some tuning and so forth. Apparently it didn't need a new chain - almost ended up shelling out for it as I'd ordered it with the bike place but luckily was let off the hook by the nice parts man.

dylan when are you getting your bike fixed & MOT'd? From the looks of this morning the summer could be over all too soon - get your arse (and bike) in gear!

Asked about my insurance and it turns out it would be 280 quid cheaper in Cheltenham, but I'd have to actually *live* there. Whoa! I'm not going to change it this time as they could claim I was acting fraudulently by giving my address as Cheltenham when I was living in Bristol. Still, who knows, by this time next year I could have a house of my own in Cheltenham..?

Which reminds me, I must get on the agency's back and also enrole at more agencies.

Things are tight moneywise, but at least I know what's coming in and what's going out which enables me to budget. I will get a better paid job so I don't have to do all of that.

Actually, I hate to point this out, but the LEGAL definition of 'living' somewhere, is that you spend at least 4 nights in every 7 there. Your room you pay rent on is explainable as more local to work.

Yeah, but for insurance purposes even if I *did* live in Cheltenham and worked in say Bristol, where I had accommodation, they would still charge at the highest premium - i.e. the Bristol one. :/

None, if they ask for the address where you're living, rather than where you work, and you spend enough time there to legally live there, another address you have access to doesn't come into it.

I can see why you're worried, but, if you DID want to save money, you DO spend enough time here to 'live' here. :)

Well I have changed both my car and bike insurance to your address, saving 38 quid on the car and a massive 280 quid on the bike insurance! Woohoo!

/me thinks about how much quicker/less hassle having your own transport is, wonders how much time/money/effort you spend on public transport/walking to places, and wonders how much you time/effort is worth.. :P

Well I've often wondered that, but public transport is nowhere near the levels of cost/convenience that I'd need to convince me to switch.

Besides, the bike is a pleasure to ride.. no more getting stuck in traffic jams for me! ;)

Well, I have heard this argument before.

But, what do I need a (for arguments sake) car for?
Driving to work: It would, on most days, save me 30 minutes.
Shopping: I live 2 minutes walk from the high street (anything else gets delivered).
Going Places: Err.. a car might save me a little time, but then I can't sleep on the way there or back.

My monthly costs: Train Ticket(125), Delivery charges (10), Taxis (25) == 160 pounds.
Name me a car that I can _buy_, get MOT, insure and pay petrol for, for 160 pounds a month.
I'd also have to park it (local permit), pay whenever it was vandalised and renew my license (18 pounds).

I can rent a car for 10 pounds a day. If I really want to _drive_ away for the weekend.

Nah, I really don't think a car would suit me. Mucho hassle! ;)

I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a car, just that I save a lot of money because I don't need one

Yeah, all the hassles of it. But I weigh it up against the freedom of not being able to go where I like when I like without having to wait for something. It suits my personality very well.

If I could live without my vehicles I would.. *sigh*
