I've been threatening to do this for a while. In conjunction with my good friend Sarah, I've been organising a bike ride for anyone who wants to come along. So here it is! Sunday the 8th September in Reading. The plan is to meet at Sarah's house then either sample her cooking or depending on numbers find a non-smokey pub to have a bite to eat before going for our ride :) Suggested meeting time is midday to give us all time to arrive and a decent stretch of the afternoon to ride in.

If [livejournal.com profile] dylan gets his Honda VFR750 MOT'd and monoshock replaced he should be able to make it, possibly with a pillion ([livejournal.com profile] florence90?).. I'll be turning up of course on my bike with [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 as my pillion. My old friend who [livejournal.com profile] cryx knows, who might soon be getting a journal might also turn up on his bike, no known pillion as yet. I'm also hoping that my friend Rose from London might be able to make it on her Yamaha Diversion 900, possibly with her boyfriend Matt. And of course Sarah will be riding her BMW 1050RT (I think it is) with her husband Tony as pillion :)

It'll be a blast! More detailed plans when numbers firm up :)

Count me in - and hang the expense!

I will have to drive down and pick up the bike from somewhere in London though - unless I can find anywhere local! I will keep looking!

Hehehe - your telling me - the 1000 is £249 for the weekend and the 600 £195!

But what the heck - I haven't ridden a bike for about 3 months so I could do with the "blast" as you say!

Possibly - I could always ride down and hire from here - thats heavily weather dependent though - and I am a fairweather rider - plus I really must have a sports bike! :0) Its what I'm used to! :0)

Hehehe but you don't wanna go pilliopn while I'm riding! No really you don't! ;0)

Sheesh.. but yeah. I'm prolly going to be the least experienced rider there (although I don't know how long my old friend has been riding for).

So I'm sure you could easily get away with the 600 to save yourself a bit of dosh! I'm sure you'd be welcome to come and stay at [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's in Cheltenham beforehand and ride over with us in the morning to Reading ;)

Hiring locally to you sounds the best idea to me - you could always ask [livejournal.com profile] foxygirl22 if she'd like to come along for the 'ride'.. ;)

That would be good as long as there is room at the inn - so to speak!

It seems bike hire is quite rare from my investigations - I think I'll call talking pages!

I dunno about taking someone else pillion on a sports bike - I never liked it as it meant I had to behave - well only for their safety of course! I worry that if I come off I may hurt the passenger so tend to be overly careful when carrying a passenger! But I doubt Nicki would get a full weekend pass for this anyway! If she does - she can help with the hire cost! :0)

I've found somewhere in London that hires the right bike for me. Is it a trek to get from Chelt to London? On the train in leathers!?

The hire starts on a Friday morning and lasts until Monday evening but I s'pose I could drop it off on Monday morning! Thing is they don't do one day hires so I'll be stuck with the millstone of the bike unless I find somewhere here that hires the bike out!

I'll keep looking!

I'd never go mad with someone on the back anyway!

I'm struggling to find anywhere near here that hires bikes! London seems the best bet - or Brighton - of all places!

Well if yr staying in Chelt, would it be useful for me to ask about Chelt Motorcycles? It'll have to be 2morrow now tho.

Do you have to have a pillion? :D
I've never taken one. I'd be dead nervous if I did, and if I was actually insured to take one!

From: [identity profile] woz.livejournal.com
Most definitely! Preferred option is a GSXR600 in blue and white! :0)

I can only find one place in London that hires them though! Is Chelt far from Brighton? I could always catch a train there and ride back up!

Lol! No. A good (light) pillion will not affect you very much at all, but yes insurance to take pillions is a must :)

What makes a good pillion?

And, what should I change to make sure I'm a better one?

A good pillion will trust the rider and not try to correct the bike's motion - you do this well :)

The only thing I'd change is that you hold me around the waist, which is lovely but can be tiring on my arms. On longer distances, when I'm on a motorway for example, it would be preferable for you to hold on differently - perhaps just hold onto my hips?

I'd love to! Would be a long day's riding though, since I'd have to get from Leicester to Reading to start with.

From: [identity profile] azekeil.livejournal.com
Yes.. a potential problem. You're more than welcome to come down the night before and crash at [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's in Cheltenham and ride to Reading with us on Sunday :)

Actually it's just got me thinking.. Saturday would be a better day to have the ride because then the further afield people like you and [livejournal.com profile] woz could ride down on the Friday night, ride with us to Reading on the Saturday and finally ride back home from Cheltenham on the Sunday. That way you're not having to ride back on top of the day's riding.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Being naked probably helps

(improves the aerodynamics and less weight to carry)
