So, in addition to some bad news about the bike I sold to
ev1ldonut, my bike decides to refuse to start outside the petrol station I stopped at on the way back. Seems the flat battery problem is back. So it's back on charge now, and it will survive the trip I'm sure, but I'll have to book it in to the garage as well (that'll be all three bikes they'll have seen a fair bit of recently) for them to look at *sigh*.
Then I get back home and find
ev1ldonut as the only logged in user on my silent computer, but it still on several days later (naughty boy), and my fileserver also on (my fault), which chews up power like no one's business.
So GRARG! really. And now I haven't even got time to make food before driving to roleplaying this evening. GRARG! again.

Date: 2005-04-05 05:45 am (UTC)you know, on Sunday when I got back to my computer, it was left switched on, with only one person logged on, and it wasn't me... ;)

Yeah, I know the fans need sorting. I intend to get rid of the north bridge fan and replace it with a decent passive heatsink. I'm going to geta convertor for a nice silent 80mm fan to replace the incredibly noisy 50mm CPU fan. I'm thinking about passive cooling for the video card too (hence me enquiring about your currently unused heatpipe). The only thing left then is the PSU, which I think should be fine with a clean out...

Date: 2005-04-05 02:03 pm (UTC)Every once in a while, I can hear other people's machines on and know for a fact that that person is out. Oh well, I suspect that they're doing lots of things or else they wouldn't be on.
As for the fileserver - I fear how much power it uses up when it's on. :-S
Can you activate spin down times for your HDs in the fileserver? This might save you money. Or try CPU idle - this program nearly shuts down your CPU when it's not needed and can wake up again very quickly. More details upon request, although I'm not sure how much electricity you might save with it - YMMV.
