Hi all,

If anyone has a working motherboard (and processor) that will take DDR memory and has an AGP slot, I'd be very interested. I have all the other parts; I want to make a reasonable system for the kids :)

Or alternatively anyone considering upgrading - this would be a few notes towards the new system :)

Geeky request (for money)

You're requesting money?

I think you've already had my only spare with those criteria, but I'll have a look see anyway. :)

... I don't think I've *ever* owned a machine that takes DDR memory?

My older machines all take SDRAM, and my "newer" machines all take RDRAM ...

... with the possible exception of the "music machine" which has a gig of ram in it, but I don't know what kind as I've not had time to do anything with it yet. (it's (I think) an Athlon 2000 ... it has a Yamaha SW1000XG sound card, a DS2416 mixer/effects card, an AX44 multiple input/output bay, an SoundBlaster Audigy sound card, plus midi keyboard, Cubase SX3 and a big stack of music software, samples etc.) so I'm afraid it's not spare :-(

It sounds like the kids "reasonable" system is going to end up being better than my "best" system!

I might just end up reformatting the P2-300 I have with Windows 98 Second Edition. That should be plenty fast enough then :)

Lee's got some stuff up on eBay but I don't know the exact specs. If it doesn't sell I'll ask him and let you know. :)

Oh, and got any cases kicking around?

I shall check what's in the attic in the morning; there's all sorts of stuff collecting dust up there.
If you don't get a reply here by 9.30, nudge me :)

...And under the dust there lies a Soltek SL-75DRV5 and a Soltek 75KV2. Both are in cases and one has a processor (speed unknown but from memory about 2-2½GHz) which, obviously, will fit into either.
If either of those will do you, they're yours for the cost of postage ;)

Blimey! A generous offer I'd be a fool to refuse - looking at reviews of both boards I think only the Soltek SL-75DRV5 uses DDR - the other one looks like SDRAM.

Have you got Skype? Give me a call at (my username) and I'll transfer the money to you. I'd like to give you more than just postage though, that doesn't seem quite fair. Oh, and talking of postage I have plenty of heatsinks and fans, so no need to include one that will up the postage and possibly damage the chip anyway...

Ehm... don't have Skype (yet!).
I shall find an appropriately sized box and see if I can get it to the post office before the weekend. Then I'll know how much postage is :)

One small detail: what address? Email me - jk at racinghippo co uk.

I have a small collection of pc's that I have dug out of the scrap (usually cause they have something usefull on) Several work fine (one has windows xp)but I dont know what I'd be looking for inside, they are at work if you want to take a look, alternatively describe me the bits and i'll take a peek.
Hope you are recovering well.

Ooh!

[livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000 has offered to come over to pick them up for me to look at. I'll give them a going-over and rescue some bits, give you back the rest and give you whatever you want for the bits I keep (within reason) :)
