I've just given all mywork's stuff in to work. A week early.

The BBQ yesterday at [livejournal.com profile] dylan's wiped me out so much that I was concerned that I still had a low-grade infection hanging on from the tonsillectomy, and I need to be well ASAP. So I made a doctor's appointment first thing this morning, for 11am. I went in and the doctor took one look at me:

"Go home, here are some antibiotics, you're signed off for a week."
"But it's my last week with my old company!"
"Tough!"
(somewhat subdued) "Yes doctor.."

So. I called my boss from the car park to give him the bad news. I stressed that this was not the outcome I was looking for from the doctor's appointment. I went home via the chemists to pick up the prescription for another weeks worth of antibiotics. While I was at home, my boss called me again and said that they'd need the sick notes in order to process everything. So I suggested I come in with all my gubbins and hand it all over to them, as I'm not going back to work for them now..

So I did. All a bit weird really.

On the way back from work, I went via the Post Office to pick up the parcel that [livejournal.com profile] racinghippo posted me - thanks very much :) I haven't poked at it yet because I'm at [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's, so no point until I get back home.

So here I am, sitting on [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000's sofa, typing this entry, officially 'between jobs'. I feel quite knackered and run down and probably glad I don't have to go into work this week, but still. Bit of a weird way to go.

Oh, note: Anyone who thinks they have a mobile number for me - you don't. I don't currently own any mobile phones.

Rather now than next week - and being "between jobs" isn't really such an issue when you know when the next one's starting.

Take it easy, chill out, and try and avoid building any shelves from force of habit ;)

What, not even a small kid's bunk bed?

Okay, I've smeared ice cream liberally around my mouth, and I'm feeling suitably compressed - now what? When does the fun start? ;)

You're supposed to put the ice cream somewhere else — in fact, on someone else. The fun starts when the ice cream is transferred to your mouth.

HTH; HAND :-p

Gosh this is all awfully confusing! And I thought I was just feeling a little run down.

I can certainly see how that would be more than a little bit of a knock to the system. :/ Try not to dwell on it though, you can't help how things have turned out. You did the best you could for them, they'll manage. :)

Having seen you at the BBQ, I think this extra week off is needed. Just make sure you actually rest properly in this one, yes? ;)

You just want people to come and offer to tie you down for a week don't you ;@)

Well, if you're offering, but do leave the animals behind ;)

...the parcel that racinghippo posted me - thanks very much :)

Ah! So it arrived in one piece then?
I had to consult The Complete Works of W Heath Robinson to package it, so was slightly concerned it'd survive Parcel Force's TLC.

Yes, it did thanks very much. It seems despite the (copious!) packaging, the front corner of the case got broken - not that I'm fussed however, as I've just powered on both boards with their processors and they both seem fine, as does my old memory and graphics card - so thanks very much! It's going to be upgrade-o-rama here in Cheltenham for this week :)
